Sunday 27 0ctober 10.30 Morning Prayer in the Parish Church. Sunday 25 November 5.00pm St Thomas’s Winchelsea the institution of the Reverend Canon Robin Whitehead as Vicar of Icklesham and Rector of Winchelsea. Canon Hugh Moseley will continue as the Curate of Icklesham. Canon Whitehead aged 60 was until recently the Vicar of St Botolph’s , Boston ,Lincolnshire. The church is always known as the Boston Stump because of its very high tower which can be seen for miles across the Fens. Canon Whitehead served in Boston for over 9 years. And considered the Stump to be “the most wonderful church in England”. Boston is an urban parish with a population of about 40,000. Canon Whitehead was the Mayor’s Chaplain and a Canon of Lincoln Cathedral. Last Saturday’s Coffee Morning in aid of Family Support Work has now raised over £350. Well done and thanks to all those who helped and supported the event. A reminder to members of Icklesham Horticultural Society your AGM is tonight at 7.30 in the Memorial Hall. On Sunday 27 there is a pier to pier(Eastbourne to Hastings 20 miles) sponsored walk to raise funds for the New Pavilion. Contact Stuart Baker,David Mayne or Nick Warren if you want to know more.So far the original three are being joined by Helen Ferris,Clare Ovenden,Cassie Simpson Foord,Jamie Dobinson,Peter Spencer,Peter Stunt,Colin Godman, and Derek French. Icklesham Village store will be CLOSED on Sunday 27 and Monday 28 October.Tuesday 29 it re-opens with winter opening hours.On weekdays it will still open at 7am but will close 30 minutes earlier at 5.30pm. On Saturdays opening will be 8.30 ( not 7am) and will still close at 5pm. Sunday no change -9am- 12.30pm. Tuesday 5 November The Robin Hood Bonfire Society has its big night in the field next to the pub. Gates open 6.30. Procession followed by Firework Display and lighting of the Bonfire at 7.45. Licensed Bar, Hog Roast,BBQ and Hot Drinks. Entrance to the field adults £3 and children £2. Other November events Sunday 10 Remembrance Day Service Saturday 16 Quiz Night Saturday 23 Ricochet in concert. Memorial Hall 7.30 tickets now on sale £5. Monday 25 Icklesham Trust Committee AGM. All village clubs and societies are represented on this Committee which is responsible for the Memorial Hall and the Pavilion. The meeting starts at 7.30 but from 7.00 thee will be wine and nibbles an and opportunity to chat to committee members. The Queen’s Head October Mini Beer Festival started on Wednesday.The music programme from now on is Friday 25 9pm Buick 6 - Delta Blues Saturday 26 4pm Alfie and the Alcoholics -Do We Have To? 9pm Ricochet -Rock ‘n Roll Sunday 27 4-6pm Rockshack -Party Started 7pm Kenny Blake - Country Folk A meeting has been held to consider how this village might mark the anniversary of the start of the First World War in which 11 men from what was then a small community lost their lives.Several ideas are being discussed. However about 92 years ago those in Icklesham who had lost family ,friends and neighbours worked together and built the Memorial Hall. Sadly their effort is sometimes forgotten and many wrongly call it the “village hall”.
